TXBC Friday Report – July 14, 2017
World Breastfeeding Month
August is World Breastfeeding Month (WBM). Are you planning an event to celebrate? If so, let us know, so your event can be shared with other TXBC members. Here are some of the events people shared on the member call this week:
SABC (San Antonio) – Big Latch On event is being planned
DABA (Dallas) – Annual summer seminar featuring Barbara Wilson Clay and Dianna West
Lubbock/Odessa – teaming up with Permian Basin Coalition to have two latch-on events
TXBC Fall Meeting – Mark Your Calendars
The TXBC Fall Meeting will be held in Dallas on October 21, 2017. There is an optional group visit to the State Fair on Friday, Oct. 20 that might include a ride on the famous Dart train in Dallas. We are working on the agenda and it will be available soon, along with registration information. Make plans to attend and bring your breastfeeding advocate buddies along! You don’t have to be a TXBC member to attend the meeting or the visit to the State Fair.
Strategic Plan Focus for July – Goals 2, 3, and 4
What are you doing to promote breastfeeding in August? How about working on some of the TXBC Strategic Plan goals? This is the perfect opportunity to promote a culture supportive and accepting of breastfeeding (goal 2) through parties and health fairs, etc., to build, link, and ensure access to state and local resources (goal 3) by providing information to moms about resources online and in your community, and to engage stakeholders in alignment of goals and actions to increase breastfeeding support (goal 4) by pulling in other groups that work with moms and babies to help with World Breastfeeding Day/Week/Month (WBM) activities! If you don’t have a local coalition, this might be the perfect time to form one as you work with health care providers and others in your community on WBM activities!
