Capitol Visiting Day was held on April 7, 2017, and the Spring Meeting was held on April 8, 2017. Check out our Facebook page for pictures of visiting day at the Capitol and the Spring Meeting.
The TXBC group visiting the Capitol posed by the statue of Ma Ferguson in the rotunda, Texas’ first female governor. Several people commented that talking to legislative staff was a lot more fun than they expected.
The Spring Meeting was held at the Central Texas Food Bank. It was a great location with plenty of free parking and a nice, spacious conference room. An evaluation of the meeting indicated that attendees either felt the meeting met or exceeded their expectations. Comments about what people liked best about the meeting included: the networking, meeting people from around the state who were passionate about breastfeeding, the open discussion – nice to bounce ideas off each other and hear what others around the state are doing, the confidence that the group could engage in a “courageous” conversation about meeting the needs of diverse populations, and the progress made working in small groups on strategic plan items.
The energy and sharing at the meeting was so uplifting. Friday Reports and Facebook are informative, but you just can’t garner the increased enthusiasm to promote and support breastfeeding you get at a face-to-face meeting.
The Fall Meeting is being planned for October in Dallas. We are checking available dates – avoiding the weekend right before the IBLCE exam and the UT-OU football game. The meeting will be on Saturday, with an optional trip to the State Fair on Friday. Please plan to attend and add your energy to meeting!
