Coming from the Capitol Visitors Parking garage, you can enter the east side of the Capitol, or go to the left and enter the main entrance, or go right for the wheelchair and stroller accessible north entrance.
You can find a building directory, a map of the grounds, and maps of the building here.
The Capitol entrance is on the 1st floor. The ground floor is below that. There are 5 floors to the main building – Ground and 1 through 4.
The main building is divided into north, south, east and west wings, at the center of which is a beautiful rotunda. Be sure to take a moment to look up when you are in it.
Attached to the north of the main building, the extension building lies underground. There are two levels, E.1 and E.2; E.2 is the lowest.
The extension building has a Seal Court at the south end. The Central Court/Open Air Rotunda is an outdoor area near the center of the main hallway, with glass doors and windows all the way around. It can be confusing because there are hallways off to the east and west of it as well as the main hallway that runs south to north. And when you head east or west off of the main hallway those side hallways can become especially confusing, but there are signs everywhere and your maps will help you figure out the layout of the offices.
In the north wing are elevators to all floors.
When looking at the directory, 1E.5 would be on the 1st floor of the main building, in the east wing, room 5. E1.504 is in the extension building on level E1, room 504.
The restroom by the cafeteria on E1 has a changing table.
To the Cafeteria – Take the North Wing elevators to level E1. Follow the hallway until it opens up into the Seal Court. The Capitol Grill is on the left of the court. The cafeteria has signs saying that outside food is prohibited.
