Government Code Chapter 619 – The 84th Legislature passed HB 786 in 2015, creating a new law to support working mothers who want to breastfeed their babies! Chapter 619 provides Texas’ salaried public employees with time and a place to pump at work.
Health and Safety Code 165 – Passed in 1995, Health and Safety Code 165 asserts a mother’s right to breastfeed anywhere she is authorized to be, and created the Mother-Friendly Worksite designation.
Current Federal Laws
Fair Labor Standards Act – By federal law, all nonexempt (generally, hourly) employees are afforded the right to time and a place to pump at work.
Right to Breastfeed on Federal Property – A woman may breastfeed in a federal building or on federal property if otherwise authorized to be there.
